Step 1: Don’t talk to people. Don’t talk at people, either.
When we talk to or at people, it presumes we will be doing the talking. Instead, talk with them. Listen to them.
This is especially important in difficult conversations. Instead of trying to win the argument, listen and share your story.
When we listen first, our verbal posture changes to become more welcoming for a conversation instead of a defensive argument.
